MY BIPOLAR MOTHER

I am the daughter of a bipolar mother. My experiences with my mother, family, and friends teach me everyone's reality is different and perception is the friend or the foe of the day. I am hoping my posts give insight to those who are curious and give comfort to those who see a parallel. I invite feedback and look forward to collaboration. It is my focus to spread joy, even on dark days. Smiles can be effortless or the workout of the day. Thanks for reading!

HOSPITAL BILLS AND DOCTOR VISITS FOR A BIPOLAR PERSON

So, we just got our first hospital bill for my mother’s stay at the hospital.  It was for 13 days.  Now, this was the second hospitalization since Mothers’ Day this year.  We still haven’t received that bill from them.  Fortunately she only stayed there for 3 days.  We did get the bill from the paramedics that came to my house to pick her up and take her to the hospital.  It was around $800 dollars and Medicare and her supplemental health insurance took care of that tab!

I know it sounds sarcastic, but not too bad when you really thinks about how bad the situation could have turned out.  Fortunately she has awesome insurance from her two decades of working for the IRS.  Yes, only two decades of work as my mother applied for a disability at the age of 55 and fortunately was granted an early escape from reality.  She has not worked in over 15 years and constantly tells everyone that she retired from civil service.

I say we are extremely fortunate in all of this when you really think about it.  Yes, it is VERY difficult dealing with a bipolar person with severe bouts of mania on a daily basis.  But, had she not worked for the government, my husband and I would have to foot all the bills.

Now, since her departure from reality she has self-diagnosis herself with the following ailments within the past three years.

1.     PTSD

2.     GOUT

3.     STAGE 4 COLON CANCER

4.     MYOPATHY

5.     DIABETES

6.     CONGESTIVE HEART FAILURE

7.     SCHIZOPHRENIA

Sometimes you just got to hate the internet!!  With too much time on her hands and having access to her IPAD, my mother is able to research every possible disease and every medication on the market today.

So, we are now onto phase 3 of her life cycle.  We are moving my mother next month to an assisted living community.  YEAH..(of course I am being sarcastic here).  My husband and I are just dreading the call from the assisted living community telling us to come pick up your mother.

Here is the first of MANY bills heading our way.  Yes, having a bipolar mother is expensive.

WOW, THEY ONLY WANTED TO CHARGE MEDICARE $26,000 FOR 13 DAYS.  GUESS MEDICARE TOLD THEM TO STICK IT!!!!!! MEDICARE WOULD ONLY PAY $14,063.97

So late last week my mother determined that she needs a stint for her heart and a colonoscopy.  We have scheduled some appointments for this week.  (yeah) It's always an adventure dealing with my mother.  Below are some text messages I received from my mother yesterday.
