MY BIPOLAR MOTHER

I am the daughter of a bipolar mother. My experiences with my mother, family, and friends teach me everyone's reality is different and perception is the friend or the foe of the day. I am hoping my posts give insight to those who are curious and give comfort to those who see a parallel. I invite feedback and look forward to collaboration. It is my focus to spread joy, even on dark days. Smiles can be effortless or the workout of the day. Thanks for reading!

A BIPOLAR PERSON AGUING WITH HER DOCTORS

Here are some text messages my mother sent to her Doctors over this past weekend.

Dear Dorothy and Jennifer,
I plan to continue GBH IOP Group until I can transition to both IHP Group and my individual therapist or counselor. I plan on working with and seeing my own therapist or counselor week of 6-22 to 6-26. My daughter Zoe xxx-219-6413  provides both transportation to my first appointment with both my therapist or counselor then The Waterford shuttle will provide my ride as of July. Given GBH IHP is within 15 mile radius of Waterford, I can ride shuttle. I cannot drive because of my meds. It is not safe and my daughter must work. She is the Office Manager for HK Pump a Family owned business and summer is their busy season when make most of their money for the year.
Anyway I can attend IHP Group and am relieved for that option because manic psychosis requires diligent care to prevent relapse. I feel more confident there will be no relapse if remain under care of my psychiatrist counselor and attend group. Reason for ZOOM GBH IOP no ride to get there.
Have great weekend, sleep well eat healthy and see you Monday via ZOOM. Also Happy Father’s Day to the men in your lives and hug yourselves!

Hi Judy - this is Dorothy.  As far as Jennifer and I are aware, the plan is for you to continue in Tele-IOP as long as you are able.
>
> We may have mentioned the OPTION for you to come to GBH in person and do PHP (which is different from Inpatient and different from IOP in that you come five days a week and stay a bit longer each day including having lunch here).  I wonder if that is what is causing confusion?  Some patients prefer PHP because it gives you someplace to be every single weekday and you get to have lunch with others in the group every day.  You have an extra hour of psychoeducation and then you go home at 2 pm every day.  Remember that this is an OPTION and in no way a mandate.  You have been sending us many, many emails and voicemails each day and this suggests you might be struggling a bit with mania or anxiety, but it is up to you if you want a higher level of care that is still in the Outpatient program (NOT inpatient, in other words).

> Either way, YOU are in control right now and we want to provide you with the level of care that you prefer, given, of course, that you are not a danger to yourself/others.
>
> It sounds like you may be having a very challenging day and unless you are concerned about your safety today/tonight by yourself at your apartment, it seems best to just continue onward with the regular schedule of us seeing you via Tele-IOP tomorrow (Friday).  I will be sending out the link soon.

Also you can verify with my psychiatrist Dr. Onadeko at xxx-934-1145 I must have sent same detailed email six times because I am tired from side effects of Risperdone and rather than rewrite email and cry about it I just sent it muliple times to assure myself you got it! I am still experiencing mood swings plus side effectS of Risperdone caused me to oversleep last hour Group Monday 6-15 and all Group on 61-16. Do I receive any credit toward preventing relapse and moving toward recovery for following?
> 1 Attending Group for full 3 hours 6-1, 2, 5, 8, 9, 12, Full three weeks 2. Completing a Daily Routine Chart I call my Daily Road Map from 6-4 to now.
> Again call my daughter Zoe at xxx-219-6413 to verify it. I honestly feel I will inappropriately be placed back in-patient when I am doing my best to go forward to a transition from out-patient to prevention of relapse via my Independent living support network-Dr. O. xxx-434-1145 my psychiatrist, my therapist Dr. C. (first appointment Monday 22 at 4:00PM or Eddie O. ,M.S. whomever best fit.
> From our phone call Mr. O. sounds kind, caring and shows empathy and is willing to work with a patient with ny diagnosis plus PTSD and mood swings. He is also willing to decrease his fee from $150 session to $85 session and Then to to twice month when I am stable and well into recovery and processing grief.

> Two wellness checks a day-one about 8pm and noon next dzy if skip group activities Security on site only authorized people allowed Walk in shower vs tub where live now Reduces fall risk Two pulls call hero if fall none where live now
> 3 meals day provided (now 3 meals served daily to my apartment Until July when dining room reopens in July to serve restaurant style meals Many more amenities including weekly cleaning service daily trash service
